Hobsonville Point

Transport & amenities

The township is designed to provide everything a community needs in order to thrive, close at hand. From parks and schools to a supermarket and boat ramp, it’s all underway now or in the pipeline.

Transport

Public transport is proposed for the area with a focus on reducing and managing traffic flows. As well, walkable connections to local shops and schools and employment will reduce the need for families to have more than one car. The Hobsonville Land Company is working closely with the Auckland Transport Authority to develop the most effective public transport systems for the new community.

Buses

Soon there will be frequent bus services connecting west to Westgate and east to Albany. A local bus service to Westgate is already in place connecting to the new ferry terminal. Download the current timetable for buses and ferrys from Auckland Transport here.

Ferrys

The ferry service commenced in February 2013 and connects Hobsonville Point to downtown Auckland several times a day from Monday to Friday. Download the current timetable for buses and ferrys from Auckland Transport here. The frequency will increase as the population on the site builds up.

Vehicles

Hobsonville Point is accessible from SH 18 via the Squadron Drive off-ramp coming from the north and via the Brighams Creek Road off-ramp coming from the west. It takes approximately 25 min to and from the city off-peak.

Families

The new primary school caters for years 1 – 8 and opened in February 2013. The new secondary school will open for year 9 in term one 2014. Each school includes land for early childhood education facilities. The schools will be the heart of the new community with local children able to walk or cycle to them. The buildings for both new schools will be delivered by the Ministry of Education under a public private partnership (PPP). The Ministry has appointed a joint establishment board for the two schools to oversee and help set up the new schools, and both principals have been appointed. You can find out more about the schools at their website.

Community

The Sunderland Lounge, a large character air force hall, is already available for community use.  It is suitable for large functions, community meetings and classes.  There are existing tennis courts and a playground, and plenty of space to walk the dog. Together with the brand new Hobsonville Point Park, this provides opportunities for neighbours to meet informally. Hobsonville Land Company and AVJennings will also plan regular events for people to meet. Read on

Businesses

There are already several businesses on site including boat builders and the Catalina Café. You can read more about on-site businesses here.

A supermarket and retail area are proposed by a commercial developer at an expanded Hobsonville Village at the western end of the site, with other shopping at places like Westgate or at Albany.

Areas within the first development precinct are set aside for retail and other non-residential activities. The first is fronting Hobsonville Point Park, the second is near the secondary school. Later precincts will provide for convenience, café and other retail appropriate to the range of activities on site, from residential to employment and lifestyle.

Larger retail will be available initially at Westgate or Albany, and then later at the expanded Hobsonville Village shopping centre, which will be the main retail area adjacent to Hobsonville Point.
